The
Shorter Catechism is one of the best known products of the Westminster
Assembly.
Recommended by evangelicals over the centuries for training both children and
adults in the ways of the Lord, the Shorter Catechism has long been used in
schools and churches as a framework of biblical teaching. With a little time
and effort young children are quite capable of memorising the answers and with
God’s blessing this is a life-long benefit. The chapter and verse references
of the Scripture proofs are provided here; for with the Shorter Catechism –
as
with all expositions of Scripture
– our
thoughts should be, “What saith the scripture?” (Romans 4:3).
