PATRICK HAMILTON ON FAITH

 

Patrick Hamilton was the first Protestant martyr in Scotland. He was burnt at the stake in 1527, for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his profession of God's truth.

 

Patrick Hamilton, burnt at St. Andrews about the year 1527. “Faith,” says he, “is a sureness; faith is a sure confidence of things which are hoped for, and a certainty of things which are not seen. The faith of Christ is to believe in him, that is, to believe in his word, and to believe that he will help thee in all thy need and deliver thee from all evil.” Mr. Patrick’s Articles, Knox’s History, 4to. p. 9.
